Gas-powered Yamaha golf carts targeted by thieves in The Villages

Gas-powered Yamaha golf carts are being targeted by thieves in The Villages.

In the past few weeks golf carts have been stolen from Colony Plaza, the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market at Sarasota Plaza on County Road 466A and Brownwood Paddock Square.

A cordless power drill is apparently being used on the ignition switches.

This 2013 Yamaha golf cart was stolen Oct. 5 from Publix at Colony Plaza.

Village Kart Aide, the roadside rescue service for golf carts, said six of its customers’ Yamaha golf carts have been targeted in the past month.

Two customers had the “good fortune” of the thieves punching out the ignition and pushing it into the dashboard, forcing them to abandon the theft of the golf carts.

In fact, it happened again to a Yamaha golf cart Sunday night at Fiesta Grande at Colony Plaza.
