To the Editor:
The comments in this article, allegedly made by the geologist (likely working for the applicant) is filled with fuzzy wording such as “is unlikely to increase sinkhole activity in The Villages”, “It is very reasonable to assume there will be no effect from this proposed withdrawal”, “The analysis will address the potential effect of the metered withdrawals on area water elevation along with the potential for effects from the range of area rainfall” (without stating what they will do if an effect is shown)”, “the analysis will be utilized to determine if there are times when the withdrawal should be reduced to alleviate the potential for impacts” (without stating who will make the final determination as to how much it should be reduced or ceased altogether), etc.
The authority granting such permission should have had a geologist retained at their cost make a similar analysis. If both geologists agree, then a carefully worded agreement should be prepared with provisions to terminate it
