Gerard G. Vanderhoof, 68, The Villages, FL died peacefully at home, December 29, 2016 surrounded by his loving wife, Kathy and their son, Timothy after a courageous four and a half month battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Rockville Centre, NY, and lived in Massapequa, NY before moving to Port St. Lucie, FL in 1986. He retired to the Villages in 2007. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War.
Jerry was a man of great character and a kind heart, a loving husband, father, brother and friend, always putting others’ needs before his own. He is survived by his wife, Kathy of 46 years, son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Nadia Vanderhoof of Orlando, FL, their children, Logan, age 8 and Lauren, age 6 and his sister, Joyce Veneruso of the Villages. Marrying into Kathy’s large family of nine siblings, he often joked that he hit the jackpot, all the brothers and sisters a guy could possibly want.
He loved life in the Villages, particularly golf, yoga, Tai chi and volunteering at the Villages Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 11 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home and Crematory, Lady Lake.
