Golf legend Nancy Lopez is working on a memoir about her groundbreaking career, called “The Course of My Life.”
The former LPGA Rookie of the Year and LPGA Player of the Year who once graced the cover of Sports Illustrated should have plenty of material from which to choose.
No doubt, some of the pages will be dedicated to her favorite charity, Adventures In Motion (AIM) which helps handicapped children. Fans lined up Thursday at Chick-fil-A to meet the 1987 inductee into the World Golf Hall of Fame at a fundraiser to benefit AIM.
“I have followed her career all of these years,” said Gay Hensley of the Village of Hillsborough who was thrilled to snag an autograph from the golf legend.
“She is such an inspiration,” Hensley said.
Lopez is hoping her memoir will be just that. Inspirational.
“It’s about everthing,” Lopez said of the forthcoming book.
She had hoped it would be out sooner, but she has been going back and forth with the book’s editors.
“They want to cut too much out,” Lopez said. “I want the whole story to be in there.”
With a demanding career and two divorces, she has certainly had her share of pain. But these days, she’s enjoying the positives, like being a grandmother to 21-month-old Molly.
“She’s a surprise and a joy every day,” Lopez said. “I never dreamed I’d enjoy someone so much.”
Dr. Jo Geiger, executive director of AIM, teased Lopez about all of the photos of Molly on Facebook.
She also acknowledged the crucial role Lopez has played in AIM for all of the years in which she has been involved.
“We couldn’t do it without her,” Geiger said.
A fundraiser to benefit AIM will be held Saturday at the Villages Polo Fields. For $80, a couple can come and enjoy dinner, drinks and music as well as lend their support to AIM. To make a reservation, call (937) 294-4611.
