Gov. Rick Scott on Friday traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with President Donald Trump to discuss recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
He said Florida is recovering quickly from Irma and pledged to offer support to Puerto Rico.
“In Florida, we have the opportunity as Floridians that we can deal with different issues than probably the federal government can, we have similar departments like the Department of Education, or Department of Transportation that does things similar to the territory of Puerto Rico,” Scott said in a brief meeting with reporters outside the White House. “We’re going to do everything we can to help Puerto Rico.”
The governor acknowledged there has been a problem with debris cleanup throughout the state, but said Florida is bouncing back.
“Our state has come back strong, we have our power back, people are back in business,” he said.
