Governor Scott proclaims March Florida Bicycle Month

A proclamation has been signed by Gov. Rick Scott recognizing March as Florida Bicycle Month. Bicycling plays an important role in providing transportation to work, school, for fitness and recreational activities to millions of Florida residents and visitors annually.

“More and more people are using bicycles as a transportation option.” said Lora Hollingsworth, FDOT Chief Safety Officer. “The people riding bikes are neighbors, friends, and co-workers, so remember to give them space and keep them safe.”

The Florida Department of Transportation has a focused initiative to reduce crashes, fatalities, and injuries involving pedestrians and bicyclists.

“Whether you bike to work, for the health benefits, or for recreation, you expect to get to your destination safely.” said FDOT Secretary Jim Boxold. “And safety is something we can’t afford to take lightly. That’s why Florida Bicycle Month is so important. It gives us another opportunity to emphasize the value of sharing the road, because Every Life Counts!
