Village of Caroline resident Maureen Fecher headed to the Colony Plaza craft show Saturday looking for a special gift for her 3-year-old grandson, Ryan.
“He just got a baby sister, Victoria, 10 days ago,” she said. “I want him to know he’s still special.”
She found a briefcase-style box which she personalized with his name. The box holds a special children’s book she found at Morningside Bookshop which had set up a tent in the grassy area out in front of Colony Plaza shopping center. Vendor Keith Lawrence Roman of Orlando had laid out books about alligators, tigers and other exotic animals.
Fecher chose, “I Sat Beside An Elephant” for her grandson.
All sorts of unusual, beautiful and slightly quirky items were on display at the craft show.
Bamboo Creations’ Dan Shafer was displaying hanging bamboo flower pot holders.
Nick Pinto of Sunshine Art Gallery was enjoying his first showing with his paintings. The Jamaica native recently opened his gallery in Leesburg.
“I am really excited to be here in The Villages for this show,” Pinto said.
It showed. He spoke eagerly with those who stopped by to admire his artistic creations.
The event was so popular that parking spilled over to Citizens First Bank, Walgreens and all the way down to Colony Cottage Recreation Center.
The event continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
