The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office along with the Board of County Commissioners this broke ground on the new Sumter County Public Safety Centers. The northern headquarters will be located in The Villages near Pinellas Plaza, it will be 45,811 square feet and two stories. The northern headquarters will house the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Operations Center, Fire, Ambulance and Emergency Medical Services offices and 911 Joint Dispatch and Emergency Call Centers. The southern headquarters will be located in Bushnell; it will be approximately 20,087 square feet and will house the Sheriff’s Office Southern office and serve as a backup for the County’s Emergency Operations Center.
The Public Safety Centers will allow multiple agencies to work more closely and provide the necessary redundancies as well as protection from weather and other situations. The total cost of this project is $30.854 million. The scheduled completion date for both facilities is December 2017.
