A tractor trailer and a pickup truck were involved in a head-on accident on Baseline Road Monday afternoon in Marion County.

At 12:40 p.m., Marion County Public Safety Communications received a 911 call for a two-vehicle rollover accident with a pinned victim on Baseline Road. MCFR Engine 18 arrived on-scene within seven minutes to find a tractor trailer rolled over onto its side and a pickup truck that sustained heavy damage. MCFR’s Technical Rescue team was dispatched to the call to assist with the heavy extrication of the tractor trailer driver. MCFR’s HAZMAT team was also dispatched and worked to contain the diesel fuel, hydraulic fluid and oil spilled from the tractor trailer.

The driver of the tractor trailer was declared a Trauma Alert and transported by MCFR ambulance to the local trauma center. MCFR paramedics treated the driver of the pickup truck for minor cuts and abrasions. He refused transport for further evaluation.

The cause of the accident is unknown and is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
