HealthSouth plans to make move into Villages with rehabilitation center

healthsouth-logoCompetition continues to heat up among providers of rehabilitation centers here in The Villages.

Earlier this month, Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth Corp. filed a letter of intent with the state of Florida to construct a 65-bed rehabilitation center in The Villages. The site has not been specified, but HealthSouth has indicated it plans to build its facility “in or near The Villages.”

“HealthSouth is committed to meeting the rehabilitative needs of patients in The Villages, and we look forward to expanding our outreach in this market,” HealthSouth’s Casey Lassiter told the Orlando Business Journal.

Now, the Villages Regional Tri-County Medical Center Inc./The Villages Regional Hospital, has announced it plans to “establish a comprehensive medical rehabilitation unit of up to 30 beds.” No location for that facility has been announced either.

HealthSouth is the nation’s largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in terms of patients treated and discharged, revenues, and number of hospitals. Operating in 28 states across the country and in Puerto Rico, HealthSouth serves patients through its network of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, outpatient rehabilitation satellite clinics and home health agencies.
