Helicopter used to search for woman who disappeared from sorority party at Gator Joe’s

The helicopter unit from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was used early Wednesday morning to search for a woman who went missing from Gator Joe’s restaurant in Weirsdale.

Several units from the sheriff’s office, including Air 1, joined in the hunt for the young woman shortly after midnight.

The woman, who is not from this area, was attending a sorority party and became intoxicated, according to Capt. James Pogue of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

She was upset and left the area on foot, when her friends could not locate her, they notified law enforcement, Pogue said. She was eventually located, passed out under a tree, he said.
