Herbert H. ‘Herb’ Luce

Herbert H. “Herb” Luce, 86, of The Villages, FL, passed peacefully Monday October 16th, 2017, surrounded by his family. Mr. Luce, born in New Britain, CT to the late Henry and Ina (Hendrickson) Luce and grew up in Newington, CT.

He raised his family in Kensington, CT and moved to the Villages in 1994 from Newport Center, VT.

He proudly served in the US Navy from 1951-1954, primarily on the USS Mindoro, and worked for Southern New England Telephone Co. as a lineman, installer and engineer for 35 years. He attended North Lake Presbyterian Church in Lady Lake and was a member of various associations including the Escort Carrier Sailors, and Airmen Association, the VFW, the American Legion, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. His numerous hobbies included traveling, golf, walking, carving and gardening.

Survivors include his son Christopher Luce and wife Dawn of Kensington, CT; daughter Carol McGuire of Charlotte, NC; 4 grandchildren: Jacquelyn, Benjamin, Jacob, and Lucas McGuire; and special friend Betty Senter . He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Isabelle (Harrington) Luce.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd, The Villages, FL at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Hospice at web.cshospice.org.
