Herman Cain attracted a crowd of about 100 people Tuesday afternoon at La Hacienda Recreation Center, hours before the polls closed in New Hampshire.
Cain, who at one point was at the top of the polls among Republicans in the 2012 White House contest, offered his take on the current presidential field. Watch video of Cain’s visit here:
The businessman-turned-radio-host proudly pointed out that three candidates he early on predicted would do well have had strong showings – Donald Trump, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.
He would not be pinned down on which one candidate he would favor at this point.
However, he said it is the responsibility of the party members to support the nominee of the GOP.
He recalled his race for the U.S. Senate in Georgia in 2004 and that it was the first time his mother had ever cast a Republican ballot.
“My mother had voted Democrat all her life,” he said.
She was 78 years old at the time, Cain said, and for her to take a Republican ballot was akin to taking poison.
Cain also warned audience members to watch out for their children and grandchildren who might fall under the spell of socialist Bernie Sanders who is running for the Democratic nomination.
He mocked Sanders’ “Feel the Bern” campaign slogan.
“They’ll feel the burn all right,” Cain warned. “They’ll feel the burn of higher taxes.”
