Villages Honor Flight vets meet official with Villages’ ties in D.C.

Veterans on Villages Honor Flight toured the war memorials Wednesday  in Washington D.C.

The group left in the wee hours on a Southwest Airlines flight from Orlando International Airport and landed at Baltimore Washington International airport. From there, the veterans and their guardians boarded buses, headed for the war memorials.

During a visit to the U.S. Air Force Memorial, the veterans had an opportunity to meet an Air Force official with Villages ties.

Heidi H. Grant is the Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force, International Affairs, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.

She is the daughter of Village of Rio Grande resident Jan Honecker.

The veterans and their guardians returned home to American Legion Post 347 in Lady Lake where they were treated to a rousing welcome home.
