Hospital offers Mended Hearts support group for heart patients and their caregivers

Mended Hearts, a support group for heart patients and their caregivers meets the second Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m. inside the Leesburg Regional Medical Center Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center, 404 South Childs Street (behind the Urgent Care building).

Mended Hearts is the largest heart patient support network in the world, with 20,000 members and 300 chapters. Recognized for its role in facilitating positive patient-care experiences, Mended Hearts partners with hospitals to offer support. Its volunteers visit with patients, hold group meetings and offer educational forums.

With one in four people in the United States suffering from heart disease, and over three quarters of a million people experiencing a heart attack, patients and families need support more than ever. “The Mended Hearts support group is a valuable resource that will help patients through their heart recovery journeys,” said Jennifer Woods, Volunteer Coordinator at Leesburg Regional Medical Center.

Mended Hearts inspires hope and improves quality of life for heart patients and their families through ongoing peer-to-peer support. You’re invited to join us for the next support group meeting Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. For more information, call Michele Klaben at (352) 365-6937.

  1. Your 1st paragraph is incorrect. The Leesburg Chapter of the Mended Hearts meets the 2nd Thursday of every month. There is also a chapter in The Villages that meets the 1st Wednesday of the month. Since the Villages hospital does not do open heart procedures the chapter is not affiliated. However, 4 members of this chapter are hospital visitors at LRMC. We are nationally recognized though.
I am the president of the Villages chapter and would be glad to help you with further information. Art Chernow 352-430-0740
