A hotel may be built next to the Sandhill Executive Golf Course north of County Road 466A as part of the Trailwinds development.
Details such as the operator of the potential hotel have not been determined, said Jerry Hart, vice president of development and construction for the Barclay Group, the Trailwinds developer.
“That is a projected use,” he said. “No buyer or user has been identified.”
The hotel would be located on about three acres between Seven Mile Drive, a new road, and the golf course, according to a map of the Trailwinds site. It would be south of a seven-acre site designated for senior living.
Roads, street lighting, utilities and other infrastructure improvements were completed on the property this spring.
A retention pond at the rear of the property would serve as a buffer between the development and homes in The Villages. According to the map, a portion of the retention pond would stretch south with a pedestrian bridge between the senior living area and retail stores.
Three anchor stores would be located back from County Road 466A behind three large parking lots on spaces of about 15 acres each. One of those stores is a Lowe’s home improvement center projected to open by the end of the year.
More retail spaces are along the county road. An Aldi grocery store and a Circle K gas station are planned for two of these spaces.
Ten small office buildings and a three-story, 248,000-square-foot indoor self-storage building are planned for the western edge of the property.
Seven multi-family buildings of 36 units each are planned for the northwestern part of the site.
When completed, the Trailwinds development is expected to include 296 homes, 462 assisted living beds, 572,750 square feet of retail space and 151,500 square feet of office space. The Trailwinds developer paid for a $1.8-million sewer line to the property from Wildwood’s sewage treatment plant west of U.S. 301.
