The Sumter County Humane Society/SPCA is urgently requesting support from its community with donations of dry cat and kitten food and canned food for the increasing number of rescued cat and kittens, in addition to supporting the “Kibbles” pet food assistance program. This program currently helps feed approximately 175 felines of eligible low income families throughout Sumter County. Financial contributions can also easily be made by check or securely at hsspca.org.
Anne Miller, HS/SPCA Shelter Manager, pointed out that the shelter’s “supply of dry cat and kitten food is practically depleted right now so we are concerned for the more than 175 cats that rely on their monthly allotment to not go hungry as well as the many cats and kittens we rescued which are awaiting adoption.” On average, the HS/SPCA currently provides over 4,500 pounds of pet food each month to feed more than 350 dogs and cats within Sumter County. “To those wishing to help on a larger scale” Miller suggested “clubs, neighborhoods, churches and youth groups may want to take this opportunity to organize a pet food drive which would make a big difference during this urgent time of need.”
In The Villages area, donations can be dropped off at PAWS Animal Hospital, Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital (both locations), Whole Earth Pet Supply and PAWS For a Moment Natural Pet Food Market and Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming; Sparr Farm & Building Supply and Bone Crazy Dog Grooming in Wildwood. In southern Sumter, donations can be dropped off at the HS/SPCA office on CR 529A (one road east of the SC Landfill).
