The third annual Strut Your Mutt event was held Saturday morning at the Villages Polo Fields to benefit the Humane/SPCA of Sumter County. More than 200 dogs and one lamb joined their owners for a fun-filled event before the big walk.

The crowd was entertained by Scooter the DJ with music and a running commentary on the different contests. Prizes were awarded for best costume, owner/pet look alike and most talented. A silent auction and raffles also added to the fun while raising money for the Humane Society.

Visitors were also given an opportunity to adopt as the humane society had a number of dogs who were eligible for adoption. The founder of Strut Your Mutt, Debbie Smith, adopted her dog Bert from the humane society and since then has sought opportunities to support them ever since. Smith, along with a number of volunteers and sponsors, expected to raise more than $20,000 this year.
