Hurricane Irma floods Paradise Park on the Historic Side of The Villages

I don’t know who will miss it the most.

The dogs, who I hear barking and playing in the dog park just before sunrise, the walkers, some with canes, others using walkers, and others just walking and holding hands, or my own peaceful moments waiting for the sunrise to get that perfect picture.

Paradise Park is under water.
Paradise Park is under water.

I strolled through the devastated park on Thursday, with visions of people smiling and saying good morning as they usually do, only to see what Hurricane Irma had done to paradise. She flooded the picnic tables and benches.  She tore down limbs and branches, and flooded some homes in the distance.  It probably will be a long time before people, their furry friends, or I, will be able to enjoy those beautiful sunrises at Paradise Park again.

Homes on the Historic Side of The Villages are in high water after Hurricane Irma.

However, if I know The Villages, and its residents, as I have for the past 14 years, through four hurricanes in 2004, and that devastating day, Feb. 2, 2007, when a tornado destroyed more than 1,000 homes in The Villages, I don’t think it will be that long, and who knows paradise may even turn out even more beautiful.

The path is flooded at Paradise Park.
