Husband and wife from Indiana killed on I-75 in Sumter County

A husband and wife from Marion, Ind. were killed in an accident at 2:25 p.m. Friday on Interstate 75 in Sumter County.

The couple has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The couple had been traveling in a 2003 GMC Envoy in the southbound lane of Interstate 75 near Mile Mark 312.

The 68-year-old male driver lost control of the vehicle which departed the roadway, traveled into the median, and overturned. The man’s 65-year-old wife suffered fatal injuries and expired at the scene of the crash. The husband was transported to Bayonet Point Medical Center and later died from his injuries.

Both had been wearing their seatbelts, the accident report indicated.
