Increasing speed limits in The Villages a recipe for disaster

To the Editor:

In my professional opinion any, and I mean any, increase in speed limits here is a recipe for disaster. I have instructed defensive driving for over 30 years, 20 of which was at UPS and 10 in my own company. A person who says this has no conception of human nature. If it’s posted 45 then people will do 55 or greater here. Furthermore, a person that says you don’t need gates really has not a clue of how humans work.
For example, in one of the neighborhoods with the gates dismantled I did a completely unscientific study. I watched 32 cars come through, only 14 stopped at the stop sign that is clearly in view! I mean they didn’t even slow down! Clearly the gates are needed at these entrances. Not only for speed, but for keeping the general public safe, walkers, bikers and carts.
