Initial reports in Dollar General incident alerted police to men with ‘machine guns’

The release of arrest affidavits indicate that when Lady Lake police were alerted Thursday to an incident at Dollar General, initial reports indicated there were several males with “machine guns.”

Officers responded at 3:39 p.m. to the store on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 near Mom & Dad’s Restaurant.

Detective Butch Perdue was first on the scene and he approached a van in the parking lot and spotted what appeared to be an AR-style rifle between the legs of a passenger.

As another officer assisted with the removal of the passenger, an empty holster for a pistol was found clipped on the passenger side door, according to an arrest report.

Several more boxes of ammunition were found in the van, as well as loaded magazines and a loaded S&W Bodyguard .380-caliber handgun.

Two men were taken into custody:

Kyle Dean Stead
Justin Casey Peterson

• Kyle Dean Stead, 29, of Lady Lake, was arrested on charges of improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon and possession of marijuana. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.

• Justin Casey Peterson, 29, of Oxford was arrested on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. He was also booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
