Inverness man dies as result of injuries suffered in Oct. 29 accident

A 52-year-old Inverness man died Friday at Ocala Regional Medical Center as the result of injuries suffered in an Oct. 29 traffic accident in Citrus County.

Peter Westervelt Smith had been a passenger in a car driven by Mark A. Bowser, 51, also of Inverness. Bowser’s car collided with a Ford F150 pickup driven by Gary Richmond, 75, of Dunnellon, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The truck had made a left hand turn in front of Bowser’s vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Citrus Springs Boulevard, the FHP report indicated.

Smith and another passenger, 58-yearold Debra Shortland-Popham of Inverness, had been airlifted from the scene of the accident to ORMC. Bowser was transported by ground to ORMC.

Richmond was taken to Seven Rivers Hospital after the accident.
