Jack L. Smith

Jack L. “Grandpa” Smith, 78, of Summerfield, FL, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016. Mr. Smith was born February 10, 1938 in Greece, NY to Walter A. and Pearl L. (Yandow) Smith. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran. Jack moved here in 1972 from Brockport, NY and retired from ARMCO Steel after 31 years of service. Jack loved to give back and was the Sumter Santa for 20 years, and was a driving force for collecting pop tops to help children at Shands and had donated over 35 gallons of blood. He also drove the Whitney Baptist Church Bus for many years where he was the childrens minister for 25 years and is now a member of the Leesburg Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include Barbara, his loving wife of 48 years next Wednesday; sons, Ted H. (Melissa) Smith of Summerfield, Rodney Lawrence of Ocala and Clinton (Tammy) Smith of Wildwood; daughters, Robin (Wayne) Patrick of Belleview, Roxanne Stafford of Wildwood and Jacqueline (Ricky) Smith of Floral City; brothers, Neil Czerniak of Hamlin, NY, Edward Czerniak of Holly, NY, George Czerniak of Holly, NY and Frank Czerniak of Rochester, NY; sisters, Vanessa Schuck of Cleveland, OH, Luanna Wolff of Fruitland Park and Lanette Villa of Hilton, NY; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Walter Smith, Frank Smith and Robert Smith. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00pm Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in the Banks/Page-Theus Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday, September 1, 2016 in the Leesburg Missionary Baptist Church with interment following in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
