Jim Merello, of The Villages, FL, born August 7, 1946, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 after a long battle with lung cancer. Jim was born in Washington, DC to parents John and Ellen Merello. He first came to The Villages as a trainer for EI DuPont for a piece of equipment put in the new Villages Hospital Imaging Center. Later that year, he brought his wife, Carolyn, down to see it. Both of them were so impressed, they knew they would come here when they were ready to retire. In 2011 they had their house built and moved to The Villages in August. Jim graduated from the University of Maryland in 1974. He worked for EI DuPont in Wilmington, DE for 20 years. When they sold their digital radiology products, he worked for several years for various smaller radiology companies in a similar capacity.

He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn, of 46 years, a daughter, Kimberly Carey and husband Blake, a one year old granddaughter, Kenzie, and a sister, Joan Pessagno and husband Marty, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation is planned at Beyers Funeral Home, 134 N. Hwy 27/441, Lady Lake on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with interment to follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at 2:00 p.m. An informal gathering will follow at the Merello home at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, 13940 US 441, Lady Lake, FL 32159 or to Cornerstone Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162.
