James Wakefield Clark, died peacefully at The Villages Cornerstone Hospice on February 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Gloria Clark, his children James W. Clark, Jr. (Janet) and Jonathan W. Clark (Anne Marie), grandchildren Jessica, Jamie, Jonathan and Caitlyn all of Virginia, brother Henry Clark of Maryland, and niece Dana Clark of Berkeley, California. He was predeceased by his mother Thelma Clark, father Henry Clark and nephew Daniel Clark.
Jim was born on February 8, 1943 in Washington, DC and lived his childhood years in Harrisonburg, VA and Lynchburg, VA. He moved to Falls Church, Virginia and graduated from Falls Church High School in 1961. He attended Chowan College and graduated from the University of Richmond, Virginia with a BS in Business Administration. Jim served in the US Army in Vietnam and received an honorable discharge in 1969. Jim worked as an insurance agent and Division Manager for Prudential Insurance Company for 22 years. He joined John Hancock in 1997 as a Compliance Manager. He then took a similar position with MONY Insurance and was transferred to Charlotte, NC in 2002. He subsequently worked for TIAA-CREF in Charlotte as a Compliance Director from 2006 until his retirement in 2012.
Jim was an athlete and played softball for many years in Fairfax, Virginia. He was a 20 year member of the Fairfax County Umpires association and elected to the Hall of Fame. He was an avid golfer and loved playing at Evergreen Country Club, Haymarket, Virginia for more than 20 years.
He and Gloria retired to The Villages in 2012. Jim continued playing the game of golf that he loved and socializing with his neighbors who became great friends. He and Gloria loved riding in their golf cart to the various squares in The Villages to listen to music, dance and especially have ice cream which was one of Jim’s favorites.
Memorial service to be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017, 10 a.m. at St. George Episcopal Church, 1250 Paige Place, The Villages, FL 32159 followed by a cremation burial at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
