John Joseph Pohlmeyer Jr., age 87, The Villages, FL, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017. He was born on January 29, 1930 in Boston, MA.

John served in the U.S. Army and during the Korean War he was the recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, Commendation Ribbon, Korean Service Medal and the UN Service Medal.

John loved to laugh and enjoyed playing golf. One of his greatest pastimes was watching old western movies. He and Betty moved to The Villages in 1987.

John lost his wife Betty less than 8 months ago. Two daughters, survive him Mary Torra (husband Anthony Torra) of The Villages, FL and Cheryl Hammond of Apache Junction, AZ. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren – Jennifer Brooks (husband Michael Brooks) of Montclair, VA; Anthony Torra Jr (wife Melissa Torra) of Winthrop, MA; Michael Torra of Cambridge, MA and Joseph Torra of Bellevue, WA; great grandchild Samantha Brooks and a new great grandchild is on the way. He also leaves behind 3 nephews: Robert, Michael and Eric Pohlmeyer and his uncle Billy McKeever of The Villages, FL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church, The Villages, FL. Burial will be immediately following at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
