Judge sentences man who was tasered at Lake Sumter Landing

Kevin Conklin

A 51-year-old man has pleaded no contest in Sumter County Court to charges he faced following his arrest in June at Lake Sumter Landing Market Square.

Kevin Charles Conklin entered the plea to charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer Tuesday in front of Judge Thomas D. Skidmore.

Conklin was sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for time served and ordered to pay $951.06 in fines and court fees.

Conklin was arrested June 19 after he was tasered by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy. Conklin had been in a “highly intoxicated” state and when approached by the deputy, Conklin laid face down on the ground and began using profanity, the arrest report indicated.  He then tried to stumble away and when the deputy ordered him to stop, Conklin kept going. The deputy then used a taser gun on Conklin.

Conklin was represented in court by attorney Paul Louie Militell.
