Kenneth Mearl Hay, 83, of The Villages, Florida, passed away, Tuesday, March 24, 2015. He had lived here since 2007 moving from Herndon, Virginia. Ken was a veteran of The Korean Conflict and then served his country in the Army Reserves for many years, ending his military career with the rank of Major. He then graduated from the University of Iowa, he then completed two Master’s degrees in Education Guidance/Counseling and Science. He then worked in several capacities for both state and federal government, finally retiring from the Environmental Protection Agency after over 40 years of service. He loved sports, engaging in team sports in both high school and college, and then continued in his love of sports by officiating in multiple sports at the college level in Kansas. Ken was a compassionate, kind and loving man who took very good care of his family and provided loving guidance throughout the years. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 43 years Joyce Hay; children, Ronald Hay,Sterling, VA, Robert Hay (Shawnee) , Lake Mount Terrace, WA, Rodger Hay, The Villages, FL, Karie Toia (Jeff), Aldie, VA; two grandsons, Travis Hay, Chris Toia; one great grandson, Gavin Hay and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home in The Villages at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 with the family receiving friends afterwards until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Private placement of his cremated remains will be at Florida National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
