A key witness in the beating death last year of a man at Spanish Springs Town Square, is free again after giving a deposition in the case.
Corey Alvut, 21, spent more than a month in the Lake County Jail, before being released Thursday night.
He had given a deposition earlier in the week in the death last year of McCall’s Tavern employee Austin Stevens. The 26-year-old died June 7, 2016 at Ocala Regional Medical Center of injuries suffered two days earlier in a beating that took place at the square.
Alvut spent the summer dodging depositions sought by attorneys representing suspects 20-year-old Brice Hall of Weirsdale and 20-year-old Nicholas Metcalfe of Belleview. Both remain free on bond.
Circuit Judge Lawrence Semento on Sept. 7 signed an order for Alvut’s arrest. He had been picked up in Marion County and later transferred to the Lake County Jail.
Alvut has been released, but has been ordered to stay with his grandparents in Summerfield.
Hall and Metcalfe are due back in court later this month.
