A 28-year-old Lady Lake man is awaiting sentencing in the 2015 death of a 24-year-old motorcyclist in The Villages.
Last week in Sumter County Court, John Owen Kiley entered a plea of no contest to a charge of vehicular homicide. A second charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving death was dismissed in exchange for Kiley’s plea.
Benjamin Elliott Murtagh, 24, of Belleview, was riding a 1998 Kawasaki at 6:35 p.m. April 11, 2015 when he was struck and killed by a vehicle at the intersection of County Road 466A and Buena Vista Boulevard.
The driver of the vehicle immediately fled the scene and the Florida Highway Patrol began searching for him.
Kiley later turned himself in to law enforcement.
Sentencing has been set for Sept. 19.
