A Lady Lake man spent Thanksgiving behind bars after he was caught riding a stolen motorcycle earlier in the week.
Jesse Parker Burns, 35, was being held on $27,000 bond following his arrest Nov. 18 on charges of grand theft auto, driving while license revoked, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A Lake County sheriff’s deputy had been investigating a report of a loud revving engine at the intersection of Lake Unity Road and Eagles Next Road in Fruitland Park when he saw the motorcycle make a turn without using a turn signal.
The deputy asked Burns why the motorcycle did not have a license plate. Burns claimed it had fallen off. A check revealed that Burns had eight prior driving while license suspended arrests and is classified as a habitual offender.
The deputy also determined that the motorcycle belonged to a Leesburg man. Burns had used a nail file to start the 1999 Yamaha.
Burns was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail.
