A Lady Lake man suffered minor injuries in an accident in St. Petersburg that claimed the life of an Indiana woman.
The four-vehicle collision occurred at noon Tuesday after a four-car crash on Interstate 275 near Gandy Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision happened in the southbound lanes. Eight people were involved, according to St. Petersburg Fire Rescue. Five refused to be taken to a hospital.
Authorities identified the woman who died as Nancy Vanvolkenburgh, 58, of Crown Point, Ind. She was a passenger in a Nissan four-door that was struck from behind by a 2003 Dodge pickup while stopped in traffic. The driver of the Nissan, Jeffrey Vanvolkenburgh, 62, suffered critical injuries and was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. The driver of the truck, Richard Owen Holter, 61, of Lady Lake suffered minor injuries.
After striking the Nissan, troopers said, Holter’s vehicle continued into a third car, bounced into another lane and was struck by a fourth car. The drivers and passengers in those vehicles either were not hurt or suffered minor injuries, according to the FHP.
