“A strong spirit of collaboration and community support are key to the success of an animal shelter,” said Springsteen-Marks, a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator through the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators. “I believe that Lake County is poised to surge forward towards becoming a no kill community and a model for other communities in the Springsteen-Marks joins Lake County after serving 16 years at a shelter in California. There, she was an integral part of a team which helped achieve an all-time high live release rate for the facility.

“I am confident that Suzi’s experience, skills and compassion make her the ideal candidate to fill this very important role,” said Brian Sheahan, director of Lake County’s Community Safety Compliance Department, which oversees the shelter division.

In November, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Board of County Commissioners entered into an interlocal agreement for Lake County to assume operation and responsibilities of the Animal Shelter effective Jan. 15. The Sheriff’s Office will maintain responsibility for Animal Services enforcement.

The shelter is located at 28123 County Road 561, Tavares, and is open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturdays, except holidays. To adopt a pet, volunteer or learn about upcoming events, visit www.lakecountyfl.gov/LCAS
