The Lake Public Safety Department and City of Clermont Fire Department are hosting a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of Lake County Fire Rescue Station 90/Clermont Fire Station 104, the first jointly-operated fire station in Lake County. The ceremony will take place on Friday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. at 13341 Hartle Road, Clermont.
The station, which began running calls last Monday, is strategically located with immediate access to State Road 50 and in close proximity to Florida’s Turnpike. The shared living quarters are 2,460-square-feet and include a kitchen, restrooms, lockers and bunks. The 1,880 square-foot garage bay boasts space for both a Lake County squad unit and a Clermont fire engine.
“There has been a growing need for additional resources in the county/Clermont response area due to increasing calls for service,” said Public Safety Director John Jolliff. “We are thrilled to partner with the city, and to have our firefighters share a permanent, state-of-the-art facility in Clermont.”
Director and Fire Chief of the Clermont Fire Department Carle Bishop said, “This was an excellent opportunity to prove that different government entities and jurisdictions can partner together to share resources which result in greater efficiency and the saving of taxpayer dollars.”
Neighboring business Senninger Irrigation donated 2.5 acres for the station, with the $1.2 million construction funded through impact fees. The project has been eight years in the making. Operating costs for the station will be shared by both Lake County and Clermont.
