Lake County judge among authors featured at event a Barnes & Noble

Author Larry Semento was one of the featured authors participating in a special event at the Lake Sumter Barnes and Noble featuring local authors. Semento’s recently published book Tears in the Wind: Triumph and Tragedy on America’s Highest Peak tells the true life story of Semento’s climb up Denali in 1998 and the death of one of the team member’s during the descent. Denali, formerly called Mt. McKinley, is the highest mountain peak in the United States.

Although the Barnes and Noble event was rescheduled because of Hurricane Matthew, Semento was pleased with the number of folks who made it to the event. Debbie Mifflin traveled from Tavares to get her copy signed. She was a client of Semento’s many years ago; Semento practiced law before becoming a Lake County Judge.

“I love to read, especially non-fiction,” said Mifflin. “Knowing the author makes it that much more exciting.”

Most of the marketing of his first book is up to Semento. His wife Nancy jumped into action promoting it on Facebook and other social media. He has had readings in Mt. Dora and Eustis. He is pleased with the feedback he has received so far. “I don’t want sound like I am bragging, but many people have gotten in touch to tell me how much they enjoyed it and that it is well written.”

Next up is participation in an author event at Lake-Sumter State College on Oct. 21.

Writing Tears in the Wind has ignited the writer in Semento. Thinking at first he was writing a memoir about one tragic event in his life, he realized how much he enjoyed the process. Looking forward to doing more writing when he retires in a few years, he doesn’t know yet what genre he will write in next. “I am mulling over the possibilities.”

Tears in the Wind is available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
