A Lakeland man was seriously injured after crashing into a semi-trailer truck on Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County early Saturday morning.
Rogelio Ramirez, 29, of Lakeland, was driving a 2015 Hyundai Accent northbound in the southbound lanes of I-75 south of Gibsonton Drive, when he was believed to have possibly entered exit 240 incorrectly, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. Omar Lloyd Carty, 42, of Brandon was driving a semi trailer truck southbound when he attempted to steer away from Ramirez’s wrong-way vehicle, the report stated. Despite Carty’s attempt, Ramirez collided with the rear passenger side trailer portion of Carty’s vehicle.
Ramirez, heavily impaired, was transported to Tampa General Hospital due to serious injuries. Charges are pending.
