Laverne ‘Bunny’ McKay Christoph

LaVerne “Bunny” McKay Christoph, 87, of The Villages, Florida, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017. Bunny and her loving husband Tom had lived in Florida since 1992, moving from Seneca, South Carolina. Bunny was born in Oaklawn, Illinois to the late Charles and Blodwyn McKay.

Bunny received her Bachelor’s Degree at Lawrence College and later achieved her Masters at Clemson University. She taught both English and Latin at the high school level in Connecticut and South Carolina. Her career culminated at Clemson University where she retired as Professor Emeritus. Bunny was active in church and community service, serving in a variety of leadership roles in many organizations. Particularly, Bunny and Tom were active in planting new churches. She authored several books, both fiction and non-fiction, stories about God and family were her forte.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Tom; children, Rick Christoph (Orinda), Linda Christoph (Vince); four grandchildren, Valerie Smith (Mike), James Bertel (Victoria), George Christoph (Cindy), Erica Daniels (Spencer); eight great grandchildren, Ashton, Damien, Caleb, Wyatt, Abigail, Serena, Isabel, Luke and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Covenant United Methodist Church, Lake Deaton Campus Building Fund, 3470 Woodridge Dr., The Villages, Florida 32162.

The family will receive friends at New Covenant United Methodist Church, Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 1 p.m. til 2 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Harold Hendren officiating. Interment at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida
