Leesburg trucker escapes serious injury in accident that shut down I-75

A Leesburg trucker escaped serious injuries in a fatal accident that killed another driver and shut down Interstate 75 on Monday morning.

David Allen Carpenter, 50, of Leesburg was driving a Mack semi-truck northbound on I-75 in the inside lane when he collided with the rear of a 2013 GMC Sierra driven by Ronnie Lynn Easton, 66, of Gibsonton. Easton had been driving northbound on I-75 when he failed to stop and collided with the rear of a 2012 Ford F350 driven by 29-year-old Georgia resident Travis Wayne Boggs who had stopped for an unrelated accident, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report.

Easton was transported to Bayfront Health Dade City, where he later died from his injuries. Carpenter suffered minor injuries. The three-vehicle collision closed portions of northbound I-75 until 2:30 p.m.
