Dear Readers:
I want to tell you about someone with whom I am very close, Margaret Klemm. As you know, she is 68 years old. Her birthday is in weeks. All of her friends call her “Peggy” or “Peg”. Her sisters, brothers, aunts, and uncles call her “Sis.” Her four living children call her “Mom.” Her fourteen grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren call her “Gramma.” Her husband of 50 years lovingly calls her “Honey.”
Ask around. She’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. She was the one in grade school who never had a lunch to eat because there just wasn’t any food or money at home. She’s the one that carried her son, David, for 9 months and then had to bury him soon after. She’s the one that raised her four children on naval bases while her husband went to sea for months at a time. She’s the one who begged the surgeon in the emergency room to remove her hand and replace the one her 17 year old son had amputated in an accident. She’s the one that watched her son go to war in Iraq. She’s the one who’s cared for her husband who lost his entire leg to cancer 25 years ago. She’s the one who cut back on living expenses, worked as a caregiver to the elderly, and saved her pennies to help pay for a home in The Villages, Florida. It was her “dream come true.” Peggy’s husband is paying legal fees with a credit card and hoping he can bring her home soon.
She is definitely not a threat to society. I talk to her every day intending to lift her spirits. She always ends up lifting mine. She sends her love to her family and friends. She’s been “living” in a small cell for 31 days. I still can’t believe it.
She would love to hear from all of her friends in The Villages. Please feel free to send her an email to FreePeggyKlemm@gmail.com and I will make sure she gets it.
Margaret Klemm is the most caring woman I know.
She is my “MOM”! I am so proud and honored to call her “MOM”!
Steve Klemm
