Letter to the Editor: Beau Biden’s death – do you care?

To the Editor:

Today, Joseph Robinette Biden III died of cancer at 46. Do you care about the grief that his father must be suffering today? This is his second child who died before him – as well as his first wife – in an auto accident with her daughter and two sons. I love Joe Biden. I think that, regardless of how he has often been pilloried in the press for his candid and unguarded opinions, he has done a huge service for the country since his election to the U.S. Senate at the age of 29, and his service to the country as Vice President in the last few years. I suffer with him tonight for the loss of one of his sons. How devastating the loss of a child must be – no matter what position you occupy in society – and no matter whether that is in public or private service to this country. Joe Biden deserves your prayers today whether you are conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat. Please offer them for him, and consider the loss he has suffered that might have been yours.
