Local candidates coast to victory before any ballots cast by voters

No need to wait until election day.

Many local races were decided by noon Friday.

With none of the candidates facing challengers, the race is over before it began.

Sumter County

Incumbent Sumter County Commissioners Garry Breeden and Doug Gilpin have drawn no opposition.

Breeden represents District 4 which includes Bushnell, Bevilles Corner, Center Hill, Webster,Croom-a-Coochee, Nobleton and Tarrytown.

Gilpin serves District 2, which includes Coleman, Lake Panasoffkee, Oxford, Rutland and Wildwood.

Commissioners draw an annual salary of $50,983.

Sumter County School Board

David Williams, golf pro at Cane Garden Country Club in The Villages, will be the newest member of the Sumter County School Board. He was to face long-time District 3 School Board member Linda Winchester but she abruptly withdrew her candidacy earlier this week.

Villager Haydn Evans did not draw a challenger in District 1.

Incumbent Sumter County School Board member Kathie Joiner has no opposition in District 5. The Sumter County School Board positions pay $31,848 per year.

Wildwood

Mayor Ed Wolf and Commissioners Pamala Kay Bivins and Don Clark will be back for another term as none of them drew opposition. The Wildwood mayor is paid $7,476.24. The Wildwood commissioners are paid $6,074.40.

Lady Lake 

Lady Lake Commissioners Paul Hannan and Tony Holden will be back for another term. Lady Lake commissioners earn $7,500.
