Local church adding outdoor service with feeling of going to drive-in movie

Live Oaks Community Church in Oxford is adding a weekly drive-up service to their regular Sunday schedule starting this Sunday, Nov. 12 at 4:30 p.m.

Golf carts and cars will park in The Grove, named for all the majestic live oak trees that border the area, facing the stage. Atop the stage is a jumbo LED screen. Pastor Chris Holck says that it will have the feel of going to a drive-in movie. The service will be similar to the Sunday morning service with music from the worship band, bible teachings and a message from Pastor Holck.

“We decided to offer this service for two reasons,” said Pastor Holck, “first the weather in Florida is so beautiful and golf carts are the way people in the Villages roll. Golf carts are used for everything else why not church?’

Pastor Holck believes a lot of people will be served with this type of service. “Not everyone wants to walk inside a building. They can drive up and stay in that spot. It is also great for families, they can even bring their pets.

They do have a weather policy.

“If you can golf in it, we’ll have church,”

In the case of inclement weather the service will be moved inside, not cancelled.

Sitting inside is always an option. The outside service will be livestreamed and shown in the church. Folks are also welcome to bring lawn chairs and sit closer to the stage.  Pastor Holck says that he does not believe anyone will have trouble hearing the service with their state-of-the-art sound system, but participants do have the option of tuning into an FM station.

An offering will not be taken during the service, but anyone wishing to contribute to the church’s project with Feed the Starving Children can put money in a bucket as they exit.

Services will continue weekly. Parking attendants will be on duty starting at 4 p.m. On Dec. 3, the outdoor service will be a Country Bluegrass Christmas and on Christmas Eve in addition to the two indoor services at 10:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. there will be two outdoor services at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Live Oaks Community Church is located at 12070 CR 103 in Oxford. For more information about the service go to www.liveoakschurch.org or call 352-446-3975.
