A local lawn maintenance worker was arrested on a weapons charge after he was spotted riding a moped without safety glasses Saturday afternoon in Fruitland Park.

In addition to not wearing safety glasses while riding the moped, 20-year-old Cory Michael Palmer of Tavares had a passenger on the moped riding backwards, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.

During a patdown after a traffic stop, a loaded gun was found in Palmer’s waistband. He told police the gun was not his and it belonged to a friend.

He was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $3,000 bond.
