Mallory Square man who has been ‘hearing voices’ released from jail after posting $10,000 bond

A 54-year-old Village of Mallory Square man who has indicated he has been “hearing voices” is free after posting $10,000 bond.

Robert David Martin Jr. walked out of the Sumter County Detention Center shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday.

He had been taken into custody Wednesday night after allegedly attacking a woman with whom he resides at a home on Lynchburg Loop.

He also made suicidal threats and said he had tried to kill himself, but had been unable to load a shotgun.

The victim said Martin has had mental “issues” for approximately 22 months. The woman told deputies that Martin “hears approximately three voices in his head and cannot concentrate doing daily activities.”
