Man arrested on drunk driving charge with children asleep in back of SUV

A man behind the wheel of a speeding SUV with two children asleep in back, was arrested early Monday morning in The Villages.

David James Oester, 36, of Tamarc, was clocked at 55 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The vehicle was pulled over on Main Street in Spanish Springs. Oester told the police officer he had consumed two Captain Morgan drinks.

He failed field sobriety exercises. He refused to provide breath samples.

Two children were found sleeping in the rear of the vehicle. They were turned over to the Department of Children and Families.

He was charged with two counts of child neglect and driving under the influence. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $5,000 bond.
