A 32-year-old Wildwood man was arrested early Thursday on charges of assault on a police officer.

The man was arrested while he appeared to be breaking into the Dollar General on U.S. 301 in Wildwood.

A Wildwood police officer was called to the store and one there, discovered the store’s front door had been shattered. The officer saw a man watching him from two blocks away. The man, identified as Travis Terrell Shannon, screamed at the officer and balled his hand into a fist.

After the man was taken into custody, he again threatened officers.

He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where bond was set at $2,000.
