With the help of video surveillance, Lady Lake police were able to track down a man who allegedly attempted to steal big-screen televisions from Sam’s Club.
On July 20, police were called to the store after a man tried to steal three big-screen televisions. The suspect had placed one television by a back door and tripped an alarm. After a loss prevention officer responded to the alarm, the suspect attempted to exit out the front door with two of the televisions. When approached by a loss prevention officer, the suspect fled in a black BMW.
During the investigation, it was determined the suspect had successfully stolen a large-screen television from the Wal-Mart in Summerfield.
In reviewing video surveillance, it was determined that Lady Lake police had written a citation on July 10 to the driver of the same BMW.
A warrant was issued for 24-year-old Adam Bear. He was arrested July 24 on April Hills Boulevard in Lady Lake.
He admitted to having stolen a TV from Wal-Mart and attempting to steal TVs from Sam’s Club. Police also found a stolen chainsaw in his possession, but Bear would not say from where it had been stolen. A “multi-tool” used to pry anti-theft devices off items was found in his possession, according to the arrest report.
Bear was booked at the Lake County Jail on a warrant charging him with retail theft. He was also arrested on a Marion County warrant charging him with petit theft.
On July 25, he posted $3,000 bond and was released.
