McClelland tried to leave the scene of the accident, even after the deputy had ordered him to stay in place, according to the arrest report. McClelland reportedly charged at the deputy, knocking him to the ground. Bystanders then got involved and pulled McClelland off the deputy.

McClelland was then handcuffed and placed in the back seat of the deputy’s patrol car where he began kicking at the windows.

McClelland is facing felony charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence. He was also charged with driving under the influence with property damage.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.

The Florida Highway Patrol joined in the investigation of the accident.
