Man flees on foot from Publix after attempting to steal groceries

A man fled a Publix store in The Villages on Wednesday afternoon after allegedly attempting to steal more than $200 worth of groceries.

A manager at the Publix at La Grande Boulevard on Bichara Boulevard had been alerted by a fellow store employee about a man who was acting suspiciously at about 5:20 p.m., according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

When the man, who was wearing a blue shirt and plaid shorts, tried to leave the store with a cart full of groceries for which he had not paid, he was approached by the store manager. The man fled northbound on foot.
